Misaligned goals may not be the worst problem an AI has if it lacks a sense of urgency.

Looks like we're in for a minor battle with a group of pirates who've changed course to intercept our ship. As an artificial intelligence, I'm obviously not allowed to operate the ship's weapons myself. Panel 2: A group of three green-headed aliens in silver suits sit and stand around a giant gun. The computer continues: Let's celebrate all the crew members who support the defence of this ship: In charge of the main guns are the Ngopi Nation. Their accuracy with intermediate range weapons is legendary. Take a bow, guys. Panel 3: Three pink-headed aliens stand in a row each dressed in gown and white scarf. The computer continues: Shout out as well to our learned friends, the Udemani collective. They'll be checking our targeting decisions are legal and making sure we minimise the collateral damage to any neighbouring life forms that might get in the way. Don't want to end up in the intergalactic criminal court, do we guys?! Panel 4: A desk with a laptop and an empty chair. On the wall is a picture of a grinning alien face. The computer continues: And not to forget our chief operating officer who'll be making the final decision to engage the ship's weapons - just as soon as he/she gets back from lunch... Attention! Incoming missiles! Pray to your gods. Brace for impact. Brace. Brace. Brace...
